The suspect was shot and later died in the hospital following the Poughkeepsie, N.Y., incident. It was not quikly clear what caused the scrimmage but sources said police were investigating whether it was sparked by a domestic dispute. Officers had responded to reports of shots fired in a parking lot near a highway ramp adjacent to the city's train station.
According to the Journal, in the immediate aftermath police closed surrounding roads, snarling traffic. At least one train headed for Manhattan was held at the station, which services both Amtrak and Metro-North commuter trains. Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik said there was no ongoing search for suspects.
