At long last, Wonder Woman has been cast. "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki landed the role that Hollywood actresses from Jennifer Love Hewitt to Beyoncé have vied for.
The Amazonian superhero has struggled to get herself to the screen over the past decade, but now that NBC has nabbed David E. Kelley's "Wonder Woman" TV series, production is finally under way. And it makes sense that Palicki, who spent three seasons on "Friday Night Lights," is the woman who landed the lead, considering "Friday Night Lights" director and producer Jeffrey Reiner is directing the show's pilot episode.
TV Line broke the news that Palicki will be playing Wonder Woman, but Kelley's show will demand that the 5' 11", 27-year-old actress play her two other personas as well. In addition to the titular crime-fighting DC comics superhero, now reinvented as a Los Angeles-based vigilante, Palicki will be playing Wonder Woman's public persona, mega-billionaire CEO Diana Themyscira, as well as her private persona, Diana's "plain Jane" assistant Diana Prince.
After Palicki's casting was announced, 1970s "Wonder Woman" Lynda Carter tweeted her approval, saying, "Congratulations Adrianne!"
Palicki is far from a stranger to the small screen. In addition to her well-known stint on the recently ended "Friday Night Lights," she starred in the short-lived TV shows "Lone Star" and "Aquaman," and memorably guest-starred in "Supernatural," "Criminal Minds" and "Robot Chicken." She also recently worked big-screen projects, with major starring roles in 2010's "Legion" and the upcoming "Red Dawn" remake.
